Joffe, Abraham
(1880-1960)
   Russian physicist. Born in Romny, Ukraine, he was appointed professor of physics at the Polytechnic Institute. He created the Physical-Technical Institute of Leningrad where he was director. He won the Stalin Prize in 1942, and was named hero of Socialist Labour in 1955.
